Sometimes there is a tree that needs to be removed from your property. Many times people will cut down the tree and leave the stump in place to save some money. The stump is one of the hardest things to remove and takes a lot more effort and labor. In addition to being an eyesore, the stump can be a trip hazard for people walking through the yard or for kids that are playing and you may decide you want it out of your yard. It also means that the grass and other foliage cannot grow in that area. Milam’s Tree Service has all you need to know about stump grinding and stump removal.
Milam’s Tree Services have prepared a list of three ways that a stump can be removed and the pros and cons of each one:
Dig Stump Removal: This is a labor intensive way to remove a stump and will require a lot of hard work. You will need to use picks and shovels to start to loosen the dirt so that it can be moved away from the stump. There are several roots that will sprout off the main root and these can be cut through instead of dug out. The main stump and large roots need to be dug out and removed from the ground. The benefit of using this method is that you can do this on your own which will save you money. The con is that this method is time consuming and can take a lot of energy and elbow grease to get the entire stump out. It is not a great option if you have more than a single stump to handle.
Chemicals: Another option that can be used is a chemical that will kill off the remaining roots of the tree and making it easier to remove. The tree service company will come out and drill several deep holes in the stump or stumps. They may also drill holes in the sides and use a chemical with nitrogen to help in decomposing the stump faster. The pro is that this is a pretty easy task and is not hard to do. The con is that it can take up to 5 years to actually decompose the stump! This option is only good for you if you are willing to wait the amount of time that this option takes.
Stump Grinding: Using a grinder to remove a stump is by far the fastest way to eliminate the stump in your yard. The method is put into action when a professional uses a high speed grinder to eat away at the stump that is above the ground. The pro is that it is fast and a great idea if you have several stumps that need to be treated. The con is it may cost more money than some of the other options.
